Here is a list of the final topics we must review this year in Math!! We have been working very hard on these already but here are some extra resources for home review!
1. Multiplication,
2. Division,
3. Measuring weight &
4. Measuring & Calculating Perimeter (of squares & rectangles)
Multiplication
By now you should know a variety of strategies to solve multiplication (& division) so let's take a look to see if you can complete the following activities:)
MULTIPLICATION GAMES
Division
(Don't forget that division is dividing things into equal groups! *Sometimes we have leftovers.)
DIVISION DERBY
DIVISION GAMES
3. WEIGHT in Grams & Kilograms
These are the most common measurements:
- Grams
- Kilograms
- Tonnes
Grams are the smallest, Tonnes are the biggest.
Let’s take a few minutes and explore how heavy each of these are.
1 kilogram = 1,000 grams
A dictionary has a mass of about one kilogram.
|
Kilograms are great for measuring things that can be lifted by people (sometimes very strong people are needed of course!).
Kilograms are often written as kg (that is a "k" for "kilo" and a "g" for "gram), so "10 kg" means "10 kilograms".
Scales measure our weight using kilograms. An adult weighs about 70 kg. How much do you weigh?
|
But when it comes to things that are very heavy, we need to use the tonne. (1000kg = 1 tonne)
First we need to measure or wegh an object & then we can calculate either grams or kilograms.
Can you try to estimate (or guess based on your knowledge) the answers?
GRAMS to KILOGRAMS GAME
WEIGHT MEASURING GAME
4. PERIMETER
Can you solve the perimeter of the green square above???
Can you try to solve the others below? -Do not forget what you know about quadrilaterals, opposite sides measure the same:)
Nov 2nd,
Hey kids,
Lets learn 3 new words... Reflection, Rotation & Translation (also known as Flip, Turn and Slide) Where have we seen these before? Do they only exist in Math class?
Let´s take a look!
Have fun learning!
Miss Noelle
Reflection
Reflection
Reflections are everywhere ... in mirrors, glass, and here in a lake. ... what do you notice ?
Every point is the same distance from the central line !
... and ...
The reflection has the same size as the original image
The central line is called the Mirror Line ...
Can A Mirror Line Be Vertical?
Yes.
Here my dog "Flame" shows a Vertical Mirror Line (with a bit of photo magic) |
In fact Mirror Lines can be in any direction.
Imagine turning the photo at the top in different directions ... ... the reflected image is always the same size, it just faces the other way:
A reflection is a flip over a line
Rotation
Rotation
Rotation means turning from a center point. The distance will always stay the same.
Here a triangle is rotated around the point marked with a "+" |
Translation
Translation
In Geometry, "Translation" simply means Moving ...
... without rotating, resizing or anything else, just moving.
Some books even call translation a ¨slide¨
Here is a quick review...

Hello kids,
Here are a few videos Miss Coni would like to share with you to help you review 3D shapes & nets:)
Have fun learning!!

KEY WORDS- Faces, Edges & Vertices
Oct 5th,
STRATEGIES for solving math problems and multiplications.
Traditionally your teacher would ask you to only memorize the table but we want you to know what those numbers represent!
Lets take a look at some of the ways you can try to solve:)
Can you write the math problem here? |
Can you explain why the smiles and groups represent 4x8?
Can you try to fill in the following blanks? |
Can you connect grouping like the above diagram to another other math lesson we have had this year?
I will leave you with a problem...
Please draw or show what this represents
2 x 10=
Oct 2nd
Rock & Roll Math Tables-
Let´s groove & rock while getting ready to multipy!!!
Here are some songs (& there are so many more) to help you remember these patterns while singing, then later by acually solving problems:)
Zero, one and two, we will only review...
What do we know about zeros?
What do we know about ones?
Can you count by twos? (Sequencing)
3
4
6
7
8
9
Can you write a multiplication & then draw it, just like above??? Try this for homework, bring 3 problems/drawings to class.
Thanks you... more fun stuff is on the way:)
Have fun learning:)

Geometry
The Triangle Song
Remember these shapes have their name based on the number of sides. (*Please review Hexagon or Octagons.) |
Shape Construction Have fun building:)
Types of Angles
Please look at this house, can you find all 3 angles within this drawing???
August 4th,
Hello Kids,
Here are more fraction support items!
Have fun learning!!
Miss Noelle
Can you try the butterfly worksheet for homework? Lets see how much you know?
August 3rd,
Hello Children,
We must continue working on Math Properties. What is that exactly? Hmmm... let´s find out!
July 31st
More fraction games...
Balloon Pop
Pie Shop
Clara´s Ice Cream Shop
Tony´s Pizza Shop
July 28th
Welcome Back from your break!
We will continue practicing addition & subtraction with large numbers, zeros (borrowing), using many different strategies or operations to solve & now we must start FANTASTIC FRACTIONS!!!!
What are fractions? Do we need to learn about them? HMMMM... Lets take a look!
Sometimes 1 fraction has the same value as another even if you use different numbers... let´s take a look:)
Here is another example...
How can I borrow (in subtractions?)
Subtracting with zeros...
Hope this helps a little... if you still have doubts about subtraction with zeros or small numbers on top, please come & talks to us...
Thanks!
Miss Noelle
What is the difference between addition & subrtaction?
When I add, my result gets bigger.
When I subtract, my result gets smaller.
Add 5+3=8
Subtract 8-5= 3
When solving problems I must always be careful of the words used.
Lets see... what should we do?
1. Shelly was clearing out her closet and she noticed that she had 125 blue shirts and that there were also 321 red shirts. If she were to combine both colours, how many shirts would she have altogether?
2. Dexter was helping his nanny prepare lemonade. She said ¨ I need 43 slices of lemon please!¨ If Dexter only sliced 32 pieces, how many more will his nanny need?
Welcome to MATH 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the difference between these words?
*DIGIT
*VALUE
*PLACE VALUE
Digit- simply the name of the number you see
Place Value- this refers to the ¨place¨where the digit sits
Value- think how much is the digit worth in that place?
For example.
5098,
Digit= 9
Place Value= tens
Value= 90 (if I have 9 tens I have 90)
MATH GAMES
PLACE VALUE GAME
Have fun learning!!
